Believe it or not, mostly everyone has experienced something at one time or another, a brief moment where they have tried to style or cut their own hair or cut someone else’s hair. Cutting hair is often a universal skill that can be used literally ALL in the world, especially if so no more complaining how to cut all textures of hair.
I am a licensed Master Barber with over 23 years of barbering experience. I am very thankful for discovering the craft and I am very excited to manage to share with everyone the proper information regarding how to become a barber. First of all, to be able to to ask yourself:
“Why do you in order to be a barber?” I needed to become a barber for the independence, flexibility, the people you meet, the income, the diversity and more. The reason I say ask yourself this question is just because a lot of people THINK they want to become barbers and then everything doesn’t happen like they thought they would and they likely want to stop and initiate pursuing other ventures. Your reason for wanting to become a barber has to be so strong enough in order to won’t let any sort of negativity or doubt come into your mind and hold you back from becoming a barber.
After may figured the actual “why”, one more point is unearth a school or local barbershop the apprenticeship program. If you choose to to school, you will earn your license by attending school for 9 months to two years. The amount of time it will take for that finish school depends on if you go to school full time or not professional. Once you have completely finished your hours and passed the exam, THE WORLD IS One!!
If you decide an apprenticeship, make sure it can be an established barbershop location assure that you definitely won’t be wasting your. The person you work under must be the owner. The owner probably won’t bail from you before i write again. Barber employees come and go too frequently to risk an apprenticeship under all involved. If you work your owner, your odds of might be a little bit greater for success as a student. I was lucky and worked under a gentle barber. But he too eventually left the shop, but not before I finished this program.
Apprenticeship programs are but not always free. Sometimes the barber you work under may charge a weekly monetary fee. After all, he paid for license too. Make sure the fee is truthful. $25-$50 a week. Also be certain to keep copies of your transcripts in case the Master Barber starts to keep a change of heart in order to jealousy. Sometimes when your clientele sets out to pick up or your skills start to get better, the actual Barber will receive a little green with envy. So be careful and not try too hard to outshine the master! HA HA HA!!!!!!
Starting out, commission is the best until you are able to build up a attitudes. Commission is when the owner gets a split on every haircut that you cut. For example, when the haircut is $10, and also the split is 60/40. He’s going to get $4.00 (40%) and you will get $6.00 (60%). Need to great when you are just starting out and you are hoping to build a clientele. Now once your split towards owner passes $200 a week (50 haircuts a week),you need to request booth rental. At 50 haircuts a week on a 60/40 split, the owner makes $200(less products) anyone make $300. But don’t forget, in case you’re on commission, the owner is needed to supply you with majority of your tools. But it comes a time in commission structure when you know it is not worth paying more than $300-$500 7 days in rates.
Commissions keeps a barber tied to the hip of proprietor. Booth rental is alot smoother. The majority of the time, if pay for just about any booth, you decide to work when you want to as long as you meet your weekly booth rental quota and are able to. Booth rent should start out lower and increase spanning a 3-6 month period. A reasonably priced booth rental starting out is $100.00 week. Some shops charge as much as $300.00 a week. You can make $2,000 a week and only pay $150.00 to $300.00 a week, and consider home about $1,500 to $1,700 that is certainly it. If you make $2,000 7 days on a commission structure, you keep 60% is actually about $1,000 to $1,200.
When entering a new shop, you shouldn’t be over anxious. You have to make certain that the shop will surely be a good fit for as well as where you might be to go. Some barbers prefer to cut white hair, some barbers prefer to cut black hair, and some barbers want diversity. But at no more the day, that exactly what is delicious about our barber companies!! However you choose to pursue it, it is all up for. I LOVE IT!!
Unless you want to be working for a large corporation, would not have high expectations as far as framework of most barbershops. You will discover a great barbershop maybe 1 away from 50. When i say great, However it the lease is paid on time, the light bill pays on time, the water is hot, the heat and a/c works, the owner is not sparatically increasing booth rental, you have supplies to sell for extra income, health plan, customer service, nice decor, clean atmosphere and anything else that is often a benefit. I just gave an example of maybe 1 shop the 50 that structured this way.
